01 / Embrace the season

Yes, it rains.

Green season brings a mix of bright days and passing showers. Rote is much drier than Bali, so there is less rain and plenty of time for the island to open up. It is a greener, quieter time to be here.

The difference is where you spend it.

02 / Keong is made for living

Not a hotel room.
A home in Rote.

When you’re staying for weeks rather than days, space changes everything: a bedroom to retreat to, a living room to spread out in, and a kitchen for your own rituals. Terraces and shared spaces give the day room to unfold. During Green Season, Keong’s position away from the west-facing coast — where the storms arrive — gives you a calmer base for the days when the weather turns.

A rainy spell can still feel like a good day: cook, read, work, train, practise yoga, swim and eat together. With a full kitchen, living space, gym, training room, pool and yoga shala, you can recreate a life here — rather than spend the season inside a hotel room.

Palm groves and an island road in Rote
03 / When the sun comes out

And when it does,
Rote is yours.

Take the long way to the beach. Follow a road through the island. Visit villages, find a quiet stretch of sand and see Rote at a gentler pace.

Let the conditions shape the day — a little exploring, time by the sea, or perhaps a surf.

Bike riding. New, high-quality bicycles are available at Keong for exploring Rote at your own pace.

Explore beyond the beach

Take the path less travelled.

Walk beneath dramatic rock faces, discover pockets of green and take time to see another side of Rote. Head out when the weather and local conditions allow.

Surf is still part of the story

Less chasing.
Still a chance.

Surfing may no longer be the main reason for your trip, but the right swell and wind can still bring good sessions. Stay flexible, check the conditions and enjoy the possibilities.

Boa

Boa can be a promising option during rainy season: seasonal winds can often suit this side of the coast. When the swell comes together, there may be a session worth heading out for.

Nemberala

There can be surf at Nemberala too, although the opportunities are less frequent in this season. It depends on the combination of swell and wind on the day.

The other side of the island

Changing winds can open up possibilities elsewhere on Rote, including waves on the other side of the island with offshore wind.

Back Boa

Back Boa is a slab that can be good when the conditions line up. It’s an option for experienced surfers who understand the break and the conditions.

Do’o

Do’o can sometimes be surfable as well, even when it is small. Another possibility to keep in mind, rather than a session to count on.

Every session depends on swell, wind, tides and local conditions. Ask locally before heading out.

Your office can
look different
for a while.

Set up a focused morning at your own table, take a swim between work blocks, then close the laptop with an island still waiting outside.

For remote workers and digital nomads, a longer stay makes room for both focus and life outside work. Tell us your dates and what your working day needs, and we’ll help you choose the right space.
